God's Birthright Blessing to Firstborn

Alex Shaw

Often in life we see people that seem to be born under an extra blessing, with more prosperity and luck than the others in their family. If they are out of money, money just seems to show up in their lives. If they are out of a job, opportunity comes knocking. If they get into a little bit of trouble, they seem to dumb luck out of it. I am not talking about illegal or immoral. (Each of these has a price one must pay for breaking spiritual or governmental laws.)

Notice families around you that have two or three sons. We almost always see the oldest getting ahead in life, often with strokes of good luck appearing out of nowhere to bless them. Of course, if they lay in bed until noon, drinking or drugging their days away, that is their freewill choice. Not much will come of anything that is left to chance existence.

The second and third sons always seem to work harder to make the same measure of success that the firstborn son seems to gain, as God blesses his efforts. God Himself has given an extra blessing upon the lives of firstborn sons. It is spoken of in Genesis 25 in the Holy Bible. The sons of Abraham, Esau and Jacob struggled over the birthright, the younger one, Jacob even deceiving his father to steal the blessing from his older brother Esau. Eventually he bought the birthright from a hungry Esau for a meal, so he could gain this firstborn blessing upon his life.

The reason it was so special is because it brings extra money and blessings of all sorts upon the family that has it. That is why Jacob was willing to lie, steal or cheat to get it. He knew it would cause him to prosper. This is not recommended behavior.

If you are the parent of a firstborn male child, he has the birthright blessing from God upon his life. If he has older female children above him, it does not matter, as he is the oldest, firstborn male child. All firstborn male children have the birthright.
